Artist Statement
My photographic work explores the narrative to create scenes that mix underlying social commentary with human drama and comedic relief. Recently, I began working with color photographs, digitally printed, that play with various toys from my childhood as well as toys collected more recently. The realism I believed as a child comes back to life in these constructions and the photographs straddle fiction and reality with drama and humor.
My diptych self-portraits dare to delve into the rocky relationship within oneself. The result, a seeming multiple personality photograph that brings the internal interaction to a tangible and physical presence. But while the characters involved seem upset or frustrated, there remains a subtle tone of humor to remind humanity that life cannot be take too seriously - and that in fact, this internal struggle we face everyday is only in our heads.
